Endometriosis is a common condition involving the reproductive system and affects at least one in 10 women worldwide. It is associated with severe symptoms, so it is crucial to know how to manage and treat them. 

But endometriosis affects people differently; therefore, everybody has their treatment and management plan for endometriosis. Let’s first understand endometriosis before we look into how to manage and treat it.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis or endo is a condition that occurs when a structure resembling endometrium attaches itself and grows outside the uterus and other body parts like the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and tissues holding the uterus in place. It can also grow in the cervix, vulva, vagina, etc. 

The main symptom of endometriosis is pain that can be during or after sex, during bowel movements, or during periods. Other symptoms are infertility, digestive problems, and bleeding between the menstrual periods. 

How to manage endometriosis

If you have endometriosis, it is important to get a proper treatment plan and to add to this, and you should also know how to take care of and make yourself feel better. For example, you should eat healthier and focus more on your wellness. Below are some of the ways you can manage endometriosis:

Eat a healthy diet

Endometriosis causes inflammation of the uterus. You should therefore focus on an anti-inflammatory diet that can help ease the inflammation, which includes foods rich in omega-3, like avocados, olive oil, and low mercury wild fish. 

Get a good night’s sleep

Endometriosis can affect your quality of sleep because of the pain it is associated with, but poor quality sleep can also amplify pain. It is, therefore, important to work toward achieving quality sleep. You can establish a relaxing bedtime routine, avoid napping, and keep your bed for sleeping only. 

Exercise daily

Endometriosis causes pelvic pain, which you can reduce through exercise. You can try strength training to build strong muscles in the pelvic area, like the buttocks, back, and upper body. Besides this, you can do many other exercises that will help with endometriosis and your overall health and well-being. 

Try acupuncture

Acupuncture is a type of Chinese medicine that helps correct body imbalances. For those with endometriosis, this can help combat the pain caused by this condition. 

Get support

If you have endometriosis, it is important you talk to your loved ones and colleagues. Tell them you are suffering from this condition and how it affects you. You can also get online support from social media platforms or free medical consultations in your nearest healthcare government facility. 

Seek physiotherapy

In most cases, endometriosis causes pelvic pain, which you can manage by having pelvic floor physiotherapy, especially if you have scar tissues after undergoing endometriosis surgery. 


Endometriosis is a common condition, especially in sexually active women. Endometriosis causes severe symptoms though you can manage and treat them. Unfortunately, you cannot prevent this condition from occurring.
