How to End your Struggle with Academic Writing
Have you ever wondered why academic writing is this difficult? From the first day in university, students encounter many courses that require the making of research reports and essays. They always struggle to write a good academic report and but fail to do so because it requires formal writing and conceptual wordings.
Research report is mainly based on the concepts and theories that defines the nature of the research and with the help of efficient research questions and objectives we get ourselves a great academic writing, however to achieve this aim there is a lot of struggle that every student has to go through, just to meet the supervisor’s requirement.
International students studying in the UK struggle many problems just to write a good academic report because the good dissertation writing help UK universities in improving their knowledge, and through this aspect they provide relevant information to their students. Therefore, that is why academic writing is crucial in UK. This post lists down several challenges that every student faces in academic writing along with their solutions that can end your struggle:
Choice of Words:
One of the major problem that every student face is the correct choice of words because it is the major aspect for academic writing. Correct words are different from unique words selection because in academic writing, you are required to provide relevant information and to do so right and informative words are more crucial, which makes majority of the students struggle.
Solution:
It has the simplest solution, which is to read the past research articles more clearly regarding the concepts and perceptions of the past researchers and then write your own perceptions because heavy words are not important but correct words are. Therefore, you can even put simple words in the research report. The main aspect that you should keep in mind that every word you choose for the research report should link with the sentence meaning otherwise it would be of no use. The primary reason is that academic writing is formal and need every word to portrait the overall research. Another aspect is that do not go for the synonyms because that make the development of sentence structure more difficult. Just keep it in simple words because through this aspect you can interpret the concept easily and efficiently.
Grammar and Punctuation:
Grammar and punctuation is the next challenges that majority of the students struggle in their academic career. Even I was unable to cope up with the perfect grammar and punctuation because grammar define the structure of the sentence and without good structure you will always struggle but would not get the good academic writing.
Solution:
To overcome this issue, you just have to keep few pointer in minds, in which the first aspect is the sentence should be complete and meaningful because incomplete sentences create lack of knowledge and thus decrease readers’ structure. Apart from that, make sure that the singular and plural aspect is correct and as per the sentence as this changes the structure of the sentence. Whereas, you should also keep all the tenses in mind as every research is different, some need present tense to identify the current scenario, some need past tense to figure out the past researchers concepts and some need future tense like recommendation and reflective essays and all. So make sure to use the correct tense as this aspect make the academic writing more impressive. Whereas this aspect would also reduce your struggle in writing a good research report.
Sentence Structure:
I have heard several complain about the difficulty in sentence structure so I guess majority of the people have sentence structure problem too. Majority of the students struggle to structure a sentence even though they know the concept regarding the topic and this especially happens in the small essay writing. The reason is that essay writing need specific answers and to the point structure so this make it difficult for the students to structure a sentence.
Solution:
Writing a sentence in any structure is as easy as writing any other aspect, you just need to know the concept of that sentence and it will become easy for you to write a good sentence structure. Apart from that, just like dissertation, essay has also the report structure, which include introduction, discussion (main body), and conclusion. In Introduction, you have to discuss about the background of the research that provide the overview to the reader.
Solid Statement:
While discussion is your main section where all the concept and theories regarding the topic are applied so, you have to start your sentence with general concept and then shift towards specific like talking about any company or country or any political aspect. This way you would get the correct sentence structure. In the end, the conclusion is all about your own perception regarding the essay, so in this section you can portrait your ideas and concepts or provide any recommendations for the problems identified in the discussion section.
Plagiarism:
Every student that are currently in his or her academic life would agree with me that plagiarism is the most challenging aspect especially in the academic writing. Whereas it needs massive amount of students’ struggle to achieve 0% or minimum plagiarism. Even though the sentence structure and concept is great however, if there is even a slight chance of having the plagiarism, the supervisor do not accept it and give zero marks in the course. The reason for having a plagiarism is that majority of the students copy past the content from various sites or from articles, which increase plagiarism. In addition, sometimes even the content is not copied from the websites or articles, the key words show similarity from the internet content.
Solution:
According to my experience, several things that you can apply in the academic writing to reduce the plagiarism, in which the first aspect is that you should understand the concept of the material that you selected to write. Analyse the key words in material and search its general meaning on the google. After that, you would be able to rephrase it on your own wording because through general you would be able to understand the true meaning of that material. Then you can cite the author from which you have chosen the material. Apart from that, another aspect that you can apply is that change active voice into passive voice or direct speech into indirect speech as this change the structure but does not change the meaning of the sentence.
Final thoughts:
Now you know the solutions to the most common academic problems. You can now end your struggle with academic writing.
