What is SCPLH Personal licence?  

A SCPLH Personal licence, also known as a Scottish personal licence, is a document that allows an individual to sell or supply alcohol in Scotland. The holder of a SCPLH licence must be 18 years of age or older and must have completed an accredited training course. 

A SCPLH Personal licence is valid for 10 years, after which it must be renewed. The renewal process involves completing a refresher training course and submitting a new application form to the local authority.

Types of Personal licence in United Kingdom?  

There are two types of personal licence in the United Kingdom:

  • SCPLH Personal licence: Allows an individual to sell or supply alcohol in Scotland.

  • APLH Personal licence: Allows an individual to sell or supply alcohol in England and Wales.

You can only apply for a SCPLH licence if you live in Scotland. If you live in England or Wales, then you will need to apply for an APLH Personal licence.

How to get SCPLH Licence?  

In order to obtain a SCPLH licence, you must complete an accredited training course. Once you have completed the training, you will need to submit an application form to the local authority.

The application form must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A completed refresher training certificate

  • A passport-style photograph

  • Proof of identity, such as a passport or driving licence

  • A criminal record check from the Disclosure Scotland

  • The SCPLH Personal licence application fee

Once your application has been received, it will be processed by the local authority and you will be issued with your SCPLH Personal licence.

How to renew SCPLH Licence ?

  • Ensure that all sales of alcohol are made in a responsible manner

  • Ensure that you do not sell or supply alcohol to any individual who is intoxicated

  • Keep a record of all sales of alcohol, including the date, time and quantity sold

  • Regular stock taking and recording the results

  • Report any incidents of disorderly behaviour or violence to the police

Failure to comply with these responsibilities could result in your SCPLH licence being revoked.

SCPLH Licence Conditions ?  

There are a number of conditions that must be met in order to hold a SCPLH Personal licence, including:

  • You must be aged 18 years or older

  • You must not have been convicted of any relevant offences

  • You must not have been convicted of any offences relating to the supply of alcohol

  • You must not have been previously been refused a SCPLH licence or had a SCPLH Personal licence revoked

  • You must complete an accredited training course

  • You must provide evidence of your identity

  • You must provide a criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland

  • You must pay the SCPLH Personal licence application fee

If you do not meet these conditions, then you will are not eligible to apply for a SCPLH Personal licence.

Do I need a SCPLH Personal licence to work in a licensed premises?  

Yes, you need a SCPLH Personal licence to work in any licensed premises in Scotland, such as a bar, nightclub or restaurant.

I already have an APLH Personal licence, do I need to apply for a SCPLH Personal licence?  

Yes, if you want to work in the alcohol industry in Scotland, then you need to obtain a SCPLH Personal licence. All individuals who sell or supply alcohol in Scotland must be licensed through SCPLH.

How much does it cost to apply for a SCPLH licence?  

There is no fee for applying for a SCPLH Personal licence. However, you will need to pay for the accredited training course, which typically costs around £150.

What happens if my SCPLH licence expires?  

If your SCPLH Personal licence expires, then you will no longer be able to sell or supply alcohol in Scotland. You will also be unable to work in any licensed premises in Scotland.
