MMA Gloves vs Boxing Gloves
Comparison of Boxing Gloves & MMA Gloves:
Although both are combat sports, boxing and mixed martial arts use different rules and conventions. This affects not only the way athletes compete, but also the design of the equipment they wear. This is most evident in the gloves worn by fighters of both styles, each designed with the particular sport in mind.
One of the most noticeable differences between the two types of gloves is the handling of the fighter’s fingers. Boxing gloves extend like mittens, covering all fingers in a padded compartment. Mixed martial arts gloves separate the fingers like normal gloves and leave the knuckles and fingertips unprotected. This difference stems from the fact that MMA fighters must be forced to use their hands without any hindrance during a scrum in a match.

Padding:
Another difference between boxing gloves and MMA gloves is easy to spot – the amount of padding. Boxing gloves are densely padded, often with a pound of soft material. MMA gloves are smoother, thinner and less soft.
In boxing competitions, a fighter hits and receives hundreds of punches. Most of these punches go to the head. Competitions in MMA include punches as well as punches and kicks. While many punches can be taken during an MMA match, the gloves are also designed with grab, kick and serve maneuvers in mind.
Closure
Traditional boxing gloves cover a maximum of 0.5 of the fighter’s forearm and are controlled in position with shoe-like laces. MMA gloves rarely cover the top of the wrist joint and the control is covered with a wrap around the strap and velcro. Also available are stylish boxing gloves with a strap and velcro closure, a method more commonly used in training than in competitions.
Hand wraps
Boxers wear bands around their hands and wrists to protect their wrists, knuckles and forearms from the impact of many punches. Boxing gloves are sized to accommodate this additional load. Hand wraps are less common in MMA; the glove is considerably more compact with very little space between the hand and even the glove itself.
Purpose of the bag gloves is protected for the hands during hard purchases on heavy bag. A variety of bag gloves are available. Everyone protects the hand differently. They range from simple that protect against scratches to designed gloves that support the structure of the hand and wrist. Finally both gloves are suitable according to the situation of the game.
