One of the most talked about topics during the testing season is the recently concluded IPL retention. The current IPL teams have retained the best players according to their plans and there have been some surprise releases, opening the doors for two newly added teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
They have a lot of big names to choose from and we hope they will spend billions on some big, established names to build a solid core. In this article, we bring you five of these players who should definitely be targeting two new teams. here is my.
Shikhar dhawan
He certainly hasn’t been India’s best starter in T20, but if we consider the IPL, Shikhar Dhawan certainly has a legacy. Dhawan is the second highest scoring run in league history, second only to Virat Kohli with 5,784 runs averaging 34.84 and a hit rate of 126.65.
He has scored more than 500 runs in the last three consecutive seasons. New teams will definitely need an experienced top-rate Indian hitter for their teams and there is no better option available than Shikhar Dhawan.
Nicholas pooran
Although we weren’t impressed at the most recent edition of the IPL, Nicholas Pooran is certainly someone who is recognized by the bowling unit of all teams as a dangerous customer every time he reaches the middle.
If we exclude IPL 2021, Pooran has scored 521 runs in two seasons with an average of 32.56 and an impressive hit rate of 165.39. These are pretty impressive numbers considering his role as a finalist on the PBKS team.
Now if we talk about his role, Nicholas Pooran is someone who can easily beat spinners and medium speed bowlers. Therefore, the two new teams should look to take him and use him as their “spinning hitter.” He certainly wasn’t impressive at IPL 2021, but I think he can be used appropriately the way RCB used Glenn Maxwell this year.
Jofra archer
Jofra Archer is one of the best T20 bowlers of the current generation. Unfortunately, he missed the 2021 IPL due to injury problems, but he will be ready to participate in the mega auction 2022.
Speaking of his performance at IPL, Archer was one of the best bowlers at IPL 2020. He has taken 46 wickets in 35 games with an impressive economy of 7.13. He is someone who can cause trouble for any hitter with his tremendous pace and ability to move both in the air and off the court. That should be the main goal for new teams to find a fast bowler who can throw perfectly in all three phases of the game.
David warner
If he is going to build a T20 team and has the best T20 opener from the available options to choose from, he should do everything he can to get it.
As we all know, David Warner is the best at maximizing the power play and keeping the pace in the intermissions as well. Along with this, his prowess as a brilliant tactician on the field is well known. Both new teams will have enough money to spend on Warner. So if they miss out on this golden opportunity, he would consider it a big mistake.
Rashid Khan
Surely we will miss words to describe his qualifications in a T20 team. His incredible numbers equate to his astonishing success in the shortest format of the game.
In the IPL, Rashid has caused problems for many superstars and has collected 93 wickets in 76 games with an incredible economy of just 6.33. He has been one of the hardest bowlers to score and if any team gets hold of him, he will almost complete his spinning bowling department. He is definitely a player who can win a lot of matches alone. So I expect new teams to spend a lot on that as they have the luxury of that extra amount in their bag.
