How Do You Clean A Fabric Couch At Home?

upholstery cleaner

A fabric couch is a very comfortable piece of furniture to have in the house. Over time you would find that the upholstery would get dirty and stained with stains of different colors presenting themselves. In such cases, fabric sofas may need cleaning which will remove these spots and make it appear as new again.

How do you clean a fabric couch at home? This is a tough question to answer because it really depends on what contaminants are on your couch. Have you experienced any spills or accidents on your couch? Chances are that you have experienced it. If so then the first step would be to remove those spill as possible using paper towels or rags. After that make sure to blot up any excess moisture with paper towels before getting to work cleaning it properly. The next thing we’re going to talk about works best for pet odors but can also help remove stains from hard spills. The spills like juice boxes or other children’s liquids.

Fabric Couch Cleaning Tips

The first thing you’ll want to do once you’ve removed as much moisture as you can is grab a small dish or glass and fill it with ¼ cup of white vinegar.

The next step is to simply spray down the couch lightly with plain water, this will help dilute the vinegar and keep your couch from smelling like vinegar for days or even weeks after you’ve cleaned it. Don’t worry too much about how wet things get at this stage because we’re going to follow up everything with one more spritz of clean water.

Whether you spilled juice or soda on your fabric couch (or just have a horrible pet odor) chances are they left behind some sort of sticky residue that is hard to remove using traditional cleaners since they never seem to penetrate deep enough into the material. This is where baking soda comes in. Grab yourself a clean, dry rag and about two tablespoons of baking soda. Next up just sprinkle the baking soda on top of the fabric where you spilled or pet odor is located. Just use your fingers to rub the baking soda into the material lightly for several minutes before grabbing another clean, dry rag and wiping off any excess.

Another solution that works very well for removing stains and odors from your couch while also adding a protective layer is olive oil soap. Olive oil soap has been used for centuries to make everything from kitchen utensils to furniture more durable but it can also be used in combination with vinegar to clean your couch at home. Start out by mixing ¼ cup of white vinegar with one tablespoon of olive oil soap in a bowl. The next step is to grab a clean rag or sponge (or both) and just dab the olive oil soap mixture into the stain along with rubbing it in between your hands for several minutes.

Professional Fabric Couch Cleaning

Finally, if you really want to get that couch looking brand new you might consider purchasing some upholstery cleaning service. This is not only good because it keeps spills from soaking through to whatever material your couch is made out of but it can also add a little extra cushion if needed since old sofas tend to lose their cushion over time. If you decide to go this route I recommend buying 3–4 inches of thick foam that matches the size of your couch’s cushions themselves. Just cut the foam down and glue or staple them onto your couch’s original cushions then arrange the fabric over top of them. You may even want to consider buying new cushion covers, it all depends on how much you care about the look and feel of your home theater’s seating arrangements (if anything at all).
