A swimming pool

Unfortunately, not all of us have a villa with a large garden with lifeguard training. But don’t let that get in the way of your big dream, your own swimming pool! A small swimming pool gives your garden that little bit extra without taking up too much space. Read all about it in our blog!

A swimming pool tailored to your garden

Every house has a garden; unfortunately, it is not always as big as we want it to be. Don’t worry, a small swimming pool can immediately turn your garden into a paradise!

At Compass Pools, we work with a wide range of models, from large to small, so that everyone can enjoy a swimming pool in the garden. This is how our Aqua model comes into its own in a smaller garden.

Advantages of a small pool

Not only does it take up less space, but your energy bill will also be significantly lower. In addition, the pool is also closer to the house, so you can enjoy the water every day.

Every pool, regardless of size, is finished to perfection. For example, we also provide our smaller models with an integrated roller shutter in PVC or Polycarbonate and LED lighting! Did you know that a countercurrent can also be incorporated? So you have hours of swimming fun even in a small pool!

A dog? 3 reasons why a swimming pool is a good idea!

Do you have a faithful four-legged friend who is fond of water? Then you probably think that a swimming pool is not a good idea. But with a Compass Pools pool, you don’t have to worry! We’re shifting the three most popular excuses for not having a pool when you have a dog.

  1. That pollutes my pool anyway…

Does your dog jump straight into the water before you realize it? Sure enough… sometimes a few strands of hair end up in the pool. But that shouldn’t be a problem!

With a good filter installation, with high-quality glass or a fine cartridge filter, all impurities are continuously filtered.

In addition, at Compass Pools, we also install automatic measurement and control techniques that meticulously maintain the quality of your water. The water is always clear with a minimum addition of chlorine. This way your beloved four-legged friend will not suffer from skin irritation!

  1. That will be havoc anyway

The quality of your pool shell is essential. After all, your dog will always clamber down the stairs, in and out of the pool! Those nails can indeed make small holes or cuts in the pool. This will eventually cause bacteria to form or leak.

Do you have a dog? Then you should opt for a quality tub! It is essential that the top layer is extremely hard and durable. This makes scratches impossible, even with long and intensive use. Finally, the outer layer of your pool should be very smooth, so that no bacteria from there either.

Thanks to the unparalleled technology, this is no problem at all with a Compass Pools pool tub.

  1. That’s not safe…

The best security for your dog? That’s the pool cover! Make sure that the tarp can support the weight of your playing dog. Bubble wrap is therefore not a good choice here, but a 4-season sail is! This means you don’t have to worry about it.

If you want to close your swimming pool at the touch of a button, it is best to opt for an electric built-in roller shutter. These float on the water and can support up to 100 kg in the middle of the pool. So be extra vigilant here to avoid dramas. The beginning of the deck is therefore not sufficiently load-bearing and can collapse.

Building a swimming pool: do you need planning permission?

You need a planning permit for certain structures on or around your home. Or if you do not need this, there is a notification obligation with your municipality. But for certain constructions, you will get an exemption for both. Confusing? We briefly explain the situation for swimming pools.

The law provides that you  DO NOT need a permit for non-covered constructions with a combined surface area of a maximum of 80 square meters, of which 40 square meters may be covered. Existing non-covered constructions must be included in the calculation of that joint surface: pond, terraces,…

An example

Suppose you already have a pond (15 square meters) and a terrace (20 square meters), then you can build a swimming pool of 45 square meters without a permit. Because 15 + 20 + 45 = 80!

The exemption only applies to constructions that:

  1. Have no building volume,
  2. Do not rise more than 1.5 meters above ground level,
  3. Stay 1 meter from the plot boundary,
  4. Are less than 30 meters from the house,
  5. Not located in a sensitive area.

Architect

In principle, the involvement of an architect is also required for works for which a planning permit is required. As you could read above, this is not necessary if you claim the exemption from a permit.

If you do require a permit, you only need an architect if the swimming pool is larger than 150 square meters . Or when the pool is within two meters of the plot boundaries and buildings.

Still not entitled to an exemption?

If you do not qualify for the exemption from a permit, you must submit an application to your municipality:

  1. You need a permit, but not an architect:

—> Then you use the application from simple file composition

  1. You need a permit and an architect:

—> Then use the extended file composition form

The Council of Aldermen will then decide independently about your file. Sometimes a public inquiry is necessary. This means that local residents can lodge objections if necessary. If your application is refused, you can appeal to the relevant deputation.

Before you start the work, do not forget that you must put up a notice on the street before and during the entire duration of the work that the permit has been issued. A copy of the permit and the file must also be present on the construction site.
