The Great Blue Heron National Wildlife Refuge
The Great Blue Heron National Wildlife Refuge, part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, is located in Wallingford and Lyme counties in eastern Connecticut. The refuge was established in 1938 and encompasses 9,000 acres. It is home to more than 350 great blue herons, as well as other wildlife such as ospreys and bald eagles.
